[SA]in Cape Times 21 Dec. 17: In Natal and the Eastern Cape they have a different name for the polite ‘tourists’. It’s ‘K’daars’ as in ‘Kyk, daar!’, said by urchins in grubby khaki pants to fathers in grubby khaki pants ... To the locals k’daars are people with stomachs over shorts, strange accents and combs and cheque books in their socks [DSAE].
in Weekend Post 5 Jan. 7: Transvalers earned the nickname ky’daar (look there) because they cruised slowly down Beach Road in their cars with passengers hanging out of the windows, oblivious to the minor traffic jams they caused [DSAE].
