[the musky odour of civet, used in perfumes and viewed as overtly erotic; thus civet-cat, a general term of abuse for a women seen as too (threateningly) sexy, e.g. as used by Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) of Katherine Mansfield (1888–1923)]
