1. (US) a Cajun (a person of French descent in Louisiana); also as adj.

1968		in DARE 334/2: ‘Cajun’ is a person of French descent in south Louisiana, called coon-ass and boogalee.
1983		Reinecke Collection n.p.: Bougalee [...] Not certainly French in origin. Contemptuous or taunting name for a lower-class Cajun. Probably related to ‘bougre.’ Now largely supplanted by ‘coon-ass’ which is also controversial [DARE].
